Myopia Control & Ortho K

Zacharia Naumann Optometry specialises in Ortho K lenses. Worn while sleeping, the wearer has no need for visual correction during the day. They are most effective in slowing down the progression of myopia.

We have had some outstanding results with these lenses across a wide age range.

About Myopia

Myopia or short sightedness will deteriorate over time. With the increasing dependence on devices and less focus on outdoor play there is a concerning increase in myopia cases among children globally. Studies have shown that myopics are more prone to eye conditions such as cataract and macular degeneration. If you wear distance glasses your children are more likely to become myopic as it can be hereditary.

While distance lenses can correct vision, they are not therapeutic. Fortunately, we can slow the progression of myopia in several ways. Multifocal lenses and specialised day wear contact lenses challenge the wearer to focus while Ortho K contact lenses flatten the cornea overnight so that vision is restored each morning. There are also therapeutic drops that are known to be effective.

“If current trends continue, almost 50% of the world's population will be myopic by 2050.”
